Local farmers of Gambibgo have taken a major step toward digital transformation with the inauguration of ZECC Technology in the Bolgatanga East District in collaboration with World Vegetable Center and the West Africa Food Resilience Program. The ceremony, held in collaboration with the local farmers in Gambibgo, marked the official introduction of the new technological system aimed at improving production of tomato and the post harvest handling and management of tomatoes. Some farmers were selected to undergo training on how to build Zero Energy Cooling Chamber Technology which came out successful.
The inauguration brought together district officials, staff of the Assembly in the Agric Department, and other stakeholders who witnessed the unveiling of the technology. Speaking at the event, the District Coordinating Director Sylvester Kyiileyang on behalf of the District Chief Executive Jacob Aka-Eri Abugre emphasized that ZECC Technology would help in post-harvest handling and management of tomato, reducing losses and increasing shelf life.
Officials noted that the adoption of ZECC Technology forms part of broader efforts to integrate innovation into tomato farming and prolonging the shelf life of the vegetable. They expressed optimism that the initiative would contribute to reducing losses and increasing shelf life after harvest.
The Assembly also called on farmers in Gambibgo to fully embrace the new system and undergo the necessary training to ensure its effective use. According to World Vegetable Center, the successful implementation of ZECC Technology is expected to support farmers and improve the overall performance and production of tomatoes in the District.
The inauguration signals a renewed commitment by the farmers to adopt technological solutions in its quest for efficient production and for food sustenance.
