The National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) of the Bolgatanga East District on 10th September 2024 held an Inter Party Dialogue Committee (IPDC) meeting at the Bolgatanga East Assembly conference hall.
The IPDC is a flagship programme of the NCCE and mandated to handle intra and inter-party conflict, the committee was reconstituted and inaugurated with committee members comprising of representatives from the Traditional Authorities, Women Groups, PWDs, Political Parties, Youth Groups, Security Services, Faith Based Organizations, Electoral Commission, CHRAJ, CSOs, Media, NCCE, District Assembly, and IPDC members.
The committee is tasked to play a crucial role in maintaining peace before, during and after the 7th December general elections.
The District NCCE Director, Madam Sadia Baba Sampana extended a warm welcome to all participants to the IPDC meeting, where she mentioned that Violent Extremism and Terrorism continuously remain a serious challenge for the preservation of democratic governance.
She seized the opportunity to sensitize members on misinformation and disinformation and appealed to all political actors in the district to be circumspect and desist from indulging in activities that could be detrimental to the peace we are enjoying in Ghana.
Hon. Albert Agana, District Chief Executive (DCE) in a brief remark urged all political parties in the district to continue to relate with one another peacefully devoid of derogatory language while embarking on their campaign tours.
DSP Charles Simpa, District Police Commander, urged members of the committee not to condone violent extremism and advised political party actors to adhere to the electoral rules and regulations for peace to prevail in the country.
The Deputy Regional Director of NCCE, Mr. Augustine Akugri advised the Committee members to be careful about what they say in the midst of people before, during and after the 2024 general elections.
He further added that the NCCE have given the IPDC powers to convene committee meetings anytime there are issues or political conflicts in the district.
The forty-one (41) member committee had Alhaji Issah Ibrahim as Chairman of the IPDC.
