Speaking in a brief ceremony of electing a Presiding Member (PM) and confirmation of the Presidents nominee as District Chief Executive (DCE). The District Coordinating Director (DCD), Micheal Awini mentioned that we cannot develop as a district without a PM and DCE to stir the affairs of the district and pleaded with all assembly members to elect a PM and confirm the DCE.
The Regional Minister, Hon. Stephen Yakubu also speaking at the ceremony added that the region has a lot of resources but we look poor. He pleaded on assembly members to be bothered on how to bring development to their people by how to get water, electricity and bridges to alleviate the plight of their people and that they need a PM and a DCE to facilitate the affairs and smooth running of the district.
Mr. Albert Agana Akugre was nominated by the President of the republic of Ghana, HE President Nana Addo Dankwa Akofu Addo to head the Bolgatanga East District as District Chief Executive. A ceremony was held at the assembly’s conference hall to confirm him to his new position.
Hon. Akuribire Ayariga Gilbert representing Pologo/Boosi-ya electoral area stepdown from the PM raise to allow Hon. Akoriga Norbert Akolgo representing the Kantia/Bimbimbisi electorial area to be voted as PM.
The Electoral Commission expertly supervised the entire process of electing the PM and confirmation of DCE. On the PM election, Hon. Akoriga Norbert Akolgo had all 24 assembly members voting to elect him. Out of the 24 elected and government appointed assembly member, 19 voted yes representing 79.2 percent to make up the two-thirds majority mark required for confirmation. 5 voted no representing 20.8 percent. The hall was filled with excitement when he beat the mark.
The elected PM in his acceptance speech thanked all assembly members especially his contender for stepping down to allow him go uncontested, he promised his colleagues he will be fair in all his dealings for the betterment and growth of the assembly.
The confirmed DCE, Hon. Albert Agana Akugre in a brief acceptance speech said he would work to promote good governance, accountability and transparency in the district, and called for collaboration from all stakeholders to advance development in the district.
He added that with unity of purpose, resilience and innovation, the district could overcome any obstacle and realize the shared vision of the energetic and prospering district.
Mawukoenya Nutekpor, a Magistrate of the Bolgatanga District Court, led the PM and confirmed DCE to swear the oath of office, secrecy and allegiance.
