The Bolgatanga East District Assembly (BEDA) as part of efforts to addressing the furniture deficit in government schools within the district handed over 400 dual desks to the districts education directorate for onward distribution to deserving schools.
Honorable David Amoah, the Bolgatanga East District Chief Executive (DCE), in a brief address indicated that government was committed to improving the educational infrastructure of schools to enhance teaching and learning. He recalled that last year September 2022, the assembly handed over a total of 900 teacher desk, chairs, hexagonal tables for nursery and kindergarten to government schools in the District and that the assembly will continue on the same path this year to support schools in the District with more furniture. He added that it is the Assembly’s target is to eliminate the challenge of pupils lying on their bellies to write in government schools within the District.
The Honorable DCE further added that the assembly was handling the furniture deficit of the education sector in three phases. The nursery/kindergarten phase, which has been tackled, and now the Primary phase. The next phase he mentioned will be the Junior High phase, which the assembly will support with mono desks.
Out of the 400 dual desks, GetFund supported the District with 200 dual desk and the Assembly procured an additional 200 dual desks he added. He urged the education directorate to ensure that all beneficiary schools made effective use and adopt a good maintenances culture to ensure that the furniture’s last long.
Honorable David Amoah (DCE) made a passionate appeal to parents and the Ghana Education Service (GES) to help prevent school pupils from abandoning school and engaging in illegal mining (gallamsey) and adviced the girl child against teenage pregnancy.
Mr. Goerge Asira, District Education Director (DED), expressed gratitude to the DCE and
Assembly for supporting government basic schools with furniture and appealed for more support. He added that his directorate had fairly distributed the furniture to over 20 schools in the District and would ensure that management of beneficiary schools comply with strict maintenance culture of the furniture.
He also reiterated the call of the DCE to parents and Ghana Education Service (GES) to help educate and abolish the canker of school pupil’s engaged in illegal mining in areas such as Zonozure, Zuarungu Kunkua, Zuarungu Moshie, and Kpatia.
